Mourning Veil

The textile needing display here was a sheer black rectangle-- a mourning veil originally worn over a bonnet. In order to show it correctly, a mount in the shape of a bonnet from the period needed to be constructed. Courtesy of Moffatt-Ladd House, Portsmouth, NH

Ethafoam shoulders were added to a styrofoam head and covered with fabric. A bonnet was built out of acid free card stock and covered with well-washed black cotton. Top Front view.
