  • Sometimes a damaged garment can lead to opportunities. The bustle shown here had worn through its casings where the fabric had been in contact with the wire spring. This formed the basis for a “cutaway” display of late 19th c. underwear. The corset was mounted over a chemise, the bustle was sandwiched between layers of acid-free tissue, and a petticoat was folded in half and draped over the top. • Creating the right shape for the corset was the foundation for the display.
